It isn't in the nature of things to explain why people get sad when the loved one who go away forever, do not return back to tell them that they are actually better-off. It is also not in the nature of people to wonder why what happened to them could be for their good.

Man is an insecure animal with a concept of a supernatural force protecting the cattle while the sheep goes to play. It isn't for nothing that the world changed when the human found it easy to play after living the life of the hunter and the gatherer. Hunting took out the life in him because he could be the hunted as well while gathering took out the energy out of him as he pillaged for food. But nevertheless something happened in history that made him spend time in playing -- some re-assurance of welfare that made him relax and look at the finer aspects of his own potential.

The past few days he had been visiting the chaiwala without a rupee in his pocket. The first time, he got the chai with an excuse of having forgotten the purse. The 2nd day that he went, he emptied all that was in his purse and looked lamely at the chaiwala hinting that he was broke. The 3rd day that he went there, he got out when the chaiwala was looking the other side.

As Shanmugam looked at the shop from a distance on the 4th day, he was wondering what he can do this time. If he could manage this one last time, he will be fine, since he was going out of town for good the next day. He also didn't carry any purse this time.

As he sat there, the chaiwala asked him, "Hey. . .did you atleast get the money for today?"

Shanmugam looked at him and nodded. As he sipped the Assam tea, he looked at the chaiwala on the way to get out of the predicament. But he ... Read more »

"Even though I complain sometimes,", it said, "I day-dream a lot of the time I will have when someone uncorks me.

The drunkard, with a little nudge, uncorked the bottle. He looked inside for something, anything; there was nothing. On his shoulders came a tap and he nudged this too trying to examine the bottle for some small object that he hasn't been able to see. The tap persisted and when he didn't respond, it became a push.

The drunkard reeled forward and turned to find an old man with a long beard. "Who-who are you? And why did you push me?", he asked.

"I'm an old man caught in a still older world but in the worlds of men, they call me a genie."

The drunkard asked him what a genie is.

The genie took a rose from his pocket and gave him a smile with it.

"Why are you giving this?"

"Mitch, what are you thinking?"

"What???"

"What what?", he asked.

"You call me a midget?"

"No, No. I was calling you Mitch. M-I-T-C-H"

"Oh...okay."

"What are you thinking?"

"I'm trying not to think", she said.

"How are you trying not to think?", he asked.

"Well...I really can't help thinking, can I?"

"No, you can't."

"So, I'm going to instead allow myself to think."

"And how do you suppose to allow yourself to think?", he asked.

"Honestly, I don't know."

"Then let everything be. It will settle down.", he said.

"And how do I let everything be?", she enqui ... Read more »

The blond hair and the hazel eyes, had the aura of a pussy-cat looking scrutinisingly at a milk placed under the dinner table. The examination was over when the taste was yummy which the girl marked with a whiff of fresh air baked with onion-cheese. It wasn't long before the driver came in with a pack of perfumes meant to be distributed to the customers waiting. As she felt the after-taste of the baked beans, she came out of her dream.

"What a crazy experience a dream can be," she wondered. It never made sense, any of her dreams. One thing came out of place at an out of time at a out of scenario and she had come to realize the comedy of it. But she very well came to understand after many dreams that the ones that came were coming out in some way as experience, though more rationally and not with the exact details.

I had never seen spirituality or something that fantastic. I performed as was required by the dance organizing committee but it wasn't long before I started getting the hang of the lessening of tension. I went into a sort of trance or atleast a state of no pain as I stamped and romped on the dance floor. Half-way through, the classical dance went hayward and I was doing some other dance the name of which I suppose is yet to be coined. At best, it can be called the dance of the drunkard. I don't remember how long I was in that state but I stopped when a pair of hands pulled me down. I looked at the instructor and he looked at me with some sort of wonder and stillness. Finally, he said, "I have never seen those steps and gestures before. Where did you learn them? And whatever happened there?" I had no answer.

The next day I went there and at the instructor's request tried to do it. After some time,he pulled me aside without much interest and I understood ... Read more »

There was not much of an indication or sign that he was in anyway likely to get promoted. But he worked anyway with whatever motivation that he had. Atleast work kept his mind off the problems of the family, friends and the world. So he came to the office as usual, created the To-Do list as usual and took the breaks as usual. He had a lunch that wasn't interesting him enough to be of relish but he was atleast glad that it soothed his body after 5 minutes.

When he went back to the desk after lunch, he was pleasantly surprised to find coupons for the Queensland. When he enquied as to why he was given this, he got the reply from his boss that the entertainment centre didn't have enough cash to pay for the all the pumpsets delivered and by some stroke of thought, the manager had politely requested if he can compensate for it by free coupons for all the employees at the amusement park. More than the thought of going to have fun, the deal amused him. ... Read more »

She looked over at the horizon and wondered if the Arab had gone out. "If I could get to marry him at 40, I can as well get to marry him at 41. A year doesn't make all of a difference.", she thought.

Her demeanor matched her thoughts as she went up to him and handed him the cup of coffee at the coffee house. It was anybody's guess how he would react to her as they both had met just a couple of moments back. She found him a decent and safe bet in the matters of romance since she had found him not ogling at other women in the bay area and also had polite mannerisms.

He took the coffee cup from her with thanks and gratitude. He was grateful because in the unknown place that he was in, there was still a person who was warm (he inferred and equated her warmness with the coffee cup).

It wasn't long before the others came to know of what he had discovered! He felt it was better to disclose it to them voluntarily rather than be forced into answering them.

He started, "I came to know of this artifact of the diety at a library. When I went to see it, I heard that it was being decorated with some extra fittings. So I went to look at it at the shop that it was being re-done. When I went there, there was no-one in the shop and so I explored on my own. As I looked at the many artifacts and idols one by one, I came across an item that had the figure missing. I thought that the craftsman was perhaps working on it. As I looked at the others in the room, the craftsman came in and gave a cry of alarm that the diety was missing. When he looked at me accusingly, I explained to him why I was there and I was saved by the fact that I didn't carry anything with me. The artsman lamented and showed me a painting of the diety. I took a good look at it a ... Read more »

That she was going to be married to him was clearer now. Maybe not with all the bells and whistles; maybe not even with the promise of a happily ever after. It was meant to be and what was meant to be comes not a second before or after. She also knew that it might well be that she will get together only to part again before eternal companionship. Certain things come at a price and this was a deal that she had come to accept at the price quoted. As actor Vijay says in a movie, the pain is sweet and she can wait for it to go away once and for all. Then there will be. . .
